Top free activities to enjoy with your family in Sharjah

3 November 2022

As the weather gets cooler, there are plenty of opportunities for families to get out and about in Sharjah to soak in culture, fitness, food and more. Here’s a quick look at where you can take the family for fun outings that are easy on the wallet:

Aljada Movie Nights

Get into your car and drive over to Madar at Aljada, where you can park in one of the many parking slots and watch movies on a big screen against the twinkling night sky – for free! Order from any of the food trucks next door and get scrumptious entrées, munchies and desserts delivered to your car while you watch some of your favourite cinematic releases.

Sharjah Art Foundation

Make your way to the Al Mureijah art space that houses a number of galleries with rotating art exhibitions throughout the year that you can visit for free – but be sure to pre-book online in advance. With an emphasis on artists whose heritage spans the Middle East and South-East Asia, artworks here are thought-provoking, inspirational and a celebration of all things creative.

Al Majaz Waterfront + Qanat Al Qasba

Get your fitness streak on at the Al Majaz Waterfront where you can take in the sights of the Corniche, and run or walk along scenic running tracks next to the seawater. You can also pop round to the Sharjah Musical Fountain after sunset until midnight for a variety of shows that will amaze everyone. Once you’re done here, walk over to the Al Qasba Canal for more stunning views. If you’re up for a little indulgence, hop onto the Eye of the Emirates Ferris wheel. Or grab a bite at one of the many restaurants down the canal.

The Blue Souk

An iconic part of Sharjah’s cityscape, the Blue Souk – or actually, the Central Souk – is one of the most popular structures in the Emirate for photographers. Its interior resembles a vibrant traditional bazaar, housing more than 600 shops that sell everything from watches to clothes to arts and crafts to jewellery. Fun has no pricetag here – entry is free for serious shoppers and window shoppers alike.

Bonus: Khor Fakkan

If you’re up for a long drive with the family, why not visit the exclave of Khor Fakkan? Bask on the scenic Khor Fakkan beach to soak up some winter sun, sand and sea for the ultimate in relaxation. Wander the old souk area in the centre of town, or enjoy the hiking trails up to the top of Al Rabi mountain, or to the newly completed Al Suhub Rest House.
