Sharjah’s reputation as an up-and-coming foodie destination is well deserved, with a slew of home-grown outlets as well as more recognised local and international brands. We’ve picked what we think are the most exciting and innovative restaurants in the city – all a great place to take your family.
Newly reopened in November last year with a new look, new concept and menu, Shababeek is a welcome return to Sharjah’s dining scene. Located on Al Qasba waterfront, Shababeek is inspired by a farm-to-table philosophy, under the guidance of chef Maroun Chedid.
Located near the historic Al Khan beach, Sanobar is a great budget option for fresh grilled seafood. Also available on the menu are the usual Arabic specialties, including hummus, tabbouleh and kibbeh.
Zahr Al Laymoun serves authentic Lebanese dishes from a spectacular setting on Al Majaz waterfront. The great views complement traditional shawarmas, waraq enab and the restaurant’s signature lemonade.
One of the latest additions to Sharjah’s food scene, B+F Burger Boutique has just opened its doors at the new Zero 6 mall in University City. Expect inventive burgers and other American casual dining staples at Kuwaiti entrepreneur Basil Al Salem’s latest venture.
If you’re looking for something a little different, try the Fen Café and Restaurant, housed inside the Sharjah Art Foundation. The brainchild of Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, the president of the Foundation, the Fen mixes upscale dishes in a relaxed but beautifully designed setting.
Another new addition to Sharjah, Black Salt opened its doors on University City Road just last year. The restaurant uses high-class cooking techniques, such as the sous-vide system and molecular gastronomy to create a wide range of dishes, from comfort food to curries, and from ravioli to cheesecake.
Located in the Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa, Gusti is the Emirate’s most popular Italian restaurant. Pick from a whole host of Mediterranean classics, including pizzas and pastas, all within an amazing beachside setting.
It’s easy to miss, but this little gem in Muwaileh has proved to be incredibly popular since its launch. Founded by Moza Hantoush and Moza Al Shamsi, OJ’s Neighbourhood Eatery focuses on providing home-style comfort food.
Another location with a great view of Al Khan Lagoon, Safartas serves traditional home-cooked Arabic food to its loyal customer base.
